When I was a kid, my favourite book was "Guide to Model Airplanes". It was written in 1945 and contained nothing but plans for solid and flying scale models. I also included some neat three views. Well, when I was twelve, I took the book with me to the local Y and like an idiot I left it there. For 35 years I cried over the loss of that book, then in 1996 or so, I was rummaging thru an old book store in Bangor Main and there where these books on the shelf screaming at me "Look at me --- NOW!) Dutifully In obeyed and Lo and behold, the book said AIRNEWS YEARBOOK Volume 2. I had volume one so a smile came over my face (I had always wondered if there was a follow up to the 1942 edition). Sitting beside it was a red book and a blue book. I opened the red book first at a random page and LO AND BEHOLD I recognized the page. It was a plan from the book I had lost (that book had a green cover by the way!)I thumbed thruy it with a recognize this, what's that?. Then I picked up the blue book and LO AND BEHOLD there was the other half of the book I had lost so many years ago!
A few years later, I was looking for something to do over the summer so I thought, Why don't I do a Plans book of my own? I needed a theme..... HMMMMM.... well there's several planes called ThunderBolt and several named Lightning and Thunder and Lightning go together.
VIOLA! An Idea was born!
